The voice of Mexican-Swiss singer Carolina Katún brings life to a repertoire exploring a universe at once poetical and moving, yet also engaged and militant. Her music is a cross between Jazz, Central American folk, baroque and improvised music.

Atypical, nomadic, melodious at times and at others minimalist, Carolina Katún develops her melodies around subtle arrangements and meaningful lyrics. Her words focus on issues including the acceptance of gender diversity, humanism and the awareness of ecological problems.

Her two albums, Al Silencio (2018) and Ritmos de Tu Ser (2022), reveal influences drawing on the depth of Mercedes Sosa, the originality of Lila Downs, the minimalism of Simón Díaz, the lyricism of Ella Fitzgerald and the experimental approach of Sisdel Endersen.

Carolina Katún’s presence at the 59th Jazzaldia is possible thanks to the collaboration of OARA (Office Artistique de la Région Nouvelle-Aquitaine) and Le Rocher de Palmer.
