The San Sebastián Municipal School of Music and Dance BIG BAND was born in 1999 under the direction of pianist Iñaki Salvador. The group took shape as part of the School’s Department of Modern Music and its members have always been students from the school.

Today the School of Music and Dance has two Big Bands, the second of which was created to cover increasing demand. Mikel Romero and Ibon Irijoa direct the IV Level Big Band, while Eduardo Salvador and Aitor Lacalle direct the III Level Big Band.

The group has seen a great many students come and go in its twenty-five years. The Big Band has given countless concerts during its musical history, both in San Sebastián and in other towns throughout Gipuzkoa.

The ensemble boasts an extensive and varied repertoire, ranging from classic Jazz to blues, funky, Latin jazz and rock numbers.
