J. Fox define themselves as “a quartet that reinvents the limits of contemporary Jazz, combining the melodic sensibility and harmonic richness of the genre with influences of funk, Latin music and modern grooves”. Inspired in the creativity and technical mastery of groups such as Yellowjackets, Spyro Gira or The Rippingtons, they have developed a very distinct sound that strikes a perfect balance between technical sophistication and deep emotional connection.
Juanma Urriza (drums), is known for his versatility and precision; Juanma creates rhythmic landscapes that constitute the backbone as well as the creative engine of his compositions. His dynamics and textures bring a freshness that informs the unique character of the group.
Fredi Pelaez (keyboards, piano), is a true master for the creation of atmospheres. Fredi combines Jazz tradition with a modern focus. His melodic lines and complex progressions bring the kind of colour that defines much of the sound of J. Fox.
Oskar Lakunza. His sax is the expressive heart of the quartet. With a style that ranges from the most introspective lyricism to explosive energy, his interpretation gives life to the main melodies of the group.
Xabier Barrenetxea (bass). Xabier’s rhythmic and melodic connection sustains the group, giving it its solid base, but he also brings stellar moments with bass lines full of groove and creativity.
