Trinidad Jiménez

Trinidad Jiménez (flute, bass flute), David Sancho (piano, Fender Rhodes, synthesizers), Borja Barrueta del Río (drums) One of the new generation accustomed to inhabiting the space where flamenco and Jazz merge, Trinidad Jiménez is known for her improvised music in the Madrid scene. Recent years have seen her introduce the bass flute to a variety of dance, flamenco and contemporary music projects, particularly during her time with Quartetazzo (a flute and percussion ensemble). At the Jazzaldia, as part of the JazzEñe season, she will bring us her latest project, Eléctrica (2023), where colourist harmonies, synthesized sounds, the inheritance of flamenco and rock beats come together in a proposal of honest strains and respectful experimentation. Roberto Nieva (alto sax), Xan Campos (piano), Thiago Alves (double bass), Rodrigo Ballesteros (drums) Leading international Jazz sax player, improviser and composer Roberto Nieva now brings his second album, Empirical Sound (2024), an emotional and introspective project. JazzEñe 2024 will offer a total of eight concerts in four double bills from 24-27 July. The shows will kick off at 12:30 in San Sebastián’s Victoria Eugenia Theatre for the 10th edition of this Spanish jazz showcase for international programmers now running for its fourth year at the San Sebastián Jazz Festival/Jazzaldia, in collaboration with the Donostia/San Sebastián City Council and Donostia Kultura. The eight selected groups are: 24 July (12:30): -Trinidad Jiménez -Roberto Nieva 4tet 25 July (12:30): -Mariola Membrives Trio -R.S. Basque Faktor 26 July (12:30): -David Sancho -Juan Saiz 27 July (12:30): -Marcelo Escrich Silent Quartet -Martín Leiton Quartet Tickets on sale and streamed concerts Individual tickets cost €8. Season tickets for the Victoria Eugenia Theatre, including the 4 JazzEñe dates and the William Parker Trio concert on 28 July at 12:30 have a price of €44.20 and are now on sale. Both can be purchased from the Jazzaldia and Donostia Kultura websites, and from the Victoria Eugenia Theatre ticket office. The concerts will have maximum seating for 840 spectators, and all will be streamed on the Jazzaldia Live YouTube channel, an experience previously enjoyed by a large number of fans in the last three editions. 249 jazz projects submitted The eight groups have been selected from the 249 projects submitted by a committee of professionals made up of Javier Estrella, director of JazzEñe; Miguel Martín, director of Jazzaldia; Lucía Rey, author, pianist and composer, participant in JazzEñe 2023; Daniel García Diego, author, pianist and artist selected for JazzEñe 2021; and Begoña Villalobos, editor and director of In&OutJAZZ. Marcelo Escrich Silent Quartet

Marcelo Escrich (double bass), Luis Giménez (guitars), Alberto Arteta (tenor & soprano sax), Mikel Andueza (alto & soprano sax) Born in the corridors of the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Navarra, the Silent Trio has harvested widespread critical acclaim in projects including the Charlie Haden Songbook (2016), a tribute album to the prestigious North American double bassist. Martín Leiton Quartet

After years of experience, the musician from the Canaries settled in Barcelona continues to shore up his personal project with this, his fifth album as frontman: Caravana (2023). David Sancho (keyboards), Marta Mansilla (flute), Jesús Caparrós (electric bass), Amara Ríos (violin), Borja Barrueta (drums)) David Sancho comes to the 59th Jazzaldia as part of the X JazzEñe to bring us a preview of his latest work, Mind in Progress, a new and exciting project scheduled for release this autumn and combining traditional Jazz with genres such as rock and hip hop. This album will set David Sancho on the path of contemporary figures like Samora Pinderhughes and Jacob Collier, young talents who combine classic aesthetics with today’s sounds. Despite his youth, the pianist has already released four albums while the versatility of his compositions has enabled him to work with artists such as Jorge Pardo, Rosario La Tremendita and the rapper Sharif.
