Marisa Monte, an exceptional singer and composer from Rio de Janeiro, is a leading light in her country’s music, one of the greatest Brazilian singers of all times. Her captivating voice, elegant and velvety, has won the hearts of listeners all over the world. Throughout her career she has shown herself to be a versatile and innovative performer, adept at mixing the traditional with the contemporary, combining samba, bossa nova, baião, pop, Jazz and soul. Over the more than three decades of her career, Marisa Monte has collaborated with top-notch artists such as Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Cartola, Pixinguinha, Paulinho da Viola, Nando Reis (Titãs), Laurie Anderson, Naná Vasconcelos, Jorge Drexler, Adriana Calcanhotto, Marcelo Yuca and Seu Jorge. Among the highlights of her career was her participation in the Tribalistas band alongside Arnaldo Antunes and Carlinhos Brown, whose similarly named album, Tribalistas (2002), captured the essence of contemporary Brazilian music with songs that became a musical phenomenon enjoying worldwide fame.
