Drummer Lutfi Jakfar and the London musician and alto sax player Ray Layzelle worked as a duo for years. Later they decided to create a trio with double bass and were joined by Jean-Pierre Lacroix. With time they met Omar Akil Little, a trumpet player from Brooklyn with whom they similarly started to work, taking the name of No Keys Quartet due to having no piano player. Later again, Lutfi Jakar met the very young pianist Mathieu Cochard, who also joined the group, thereby creating Lutfi’s first be-bop quintet: the Lutfi Jakfar Quintet.

The group regularly performs in and around Bayonne, Anglet and Biarritz, pumping out Jazz standards, decidedly acoustic and faithful to the swing and be-bop spirit and taking us into the Jazz world of the 50s and 60s with numbers from a repertoire by iconic composers in the day: Horace Silver, Bobby Timmons, Lee Morgan, Hank Mobley, Cannonball Adderley, Thelonious Monk…

*Club Victoria Eugenia: free entry while places last. However, an invitation must be collected from the Victoria Eugenia Theatre ticket desk on the same day of the concert, from 17:00 onwards.
