As winner of this year’s RISING STARS Jazz Award, Tom will embark on a 2018 tour of seven of the major jazz festivals in Europe. These include the Nice Jazz Festival in France; JazzOpen in Stuttgart, Germany; Heineken Jazzaldia in San Sebastian, Spain; the Kongsberg Jazz Festival in Norway; the Cheltenham Jazz Festival in the UK; the North Sea Jazz Festival in The Netherlands; and the Leopolis Jazz Festival in Lvov, Ukraine. The legal capacity of the Plaza de la Trinidad is now 1,780 spectators. Seats cannot be reserved in the area above the Bolatoki (traditional bowling alley) due to safety reasons and limits on the capacity allowed in this area (a maximum of 214 people). Security staff will be doubled and more emergency exits will be available. The aisles between the chairs will be wider, there will be fewer bars and more portable toilets. The total number of spectators was in the region of 175,000, of whom 19,075 flocked to the ticketed concerts while the remainder enjoyed the numerous free performances. Several of the concerts held in the Plaza de la Trinidad, the Kursaal Auditorium, the San Telmo Museum and the Victoria Eugenia Theatre had to hang up their “sold out” signs. The atmosphere in San Sebastian, packed with visitors, was one of overall satisfaction with the extensive Festival programme. The number of stages was increased to 20, for the first time using one of the city’s most charming spots, the Plaza de la Constitución. The number of performances came to 132, of which 84 were free of charge.
